"Chakka" is the Malayalam word for Jackfruit. And, "Chakka Puzhukk" is a typical Kerala recipe made with unripe Jackfruit, coconut and other spices.
In Kerala, two varieties of jackfruit predominate: varikka chakka and koozha chakka . Varikka has slightly hard inner flesh when ripe, while the inner flesh of the ripe koozha fruit is very soft and almost dissolving. For preparing this dish, unripe varikka chakka is used.
People prepare this dish very often during the jackfruit season i.e., between March and June, and is traditionally served with hot tea. It is also served as a side dish for rice. And, it tastes fantastic.
