Chakka Puzhukku / Unripe Jackfruit With Coconut and Spices

Chakka Puzhukku / Unripe Jackfruit With Coconut and Spices

"Chakka" is the Malayalam word for Jackfruit. And, "Chakka Puzhukk" is a typical Kerala recipe made with unripe Jackfruit, coconut and other spices.

In Kerala, two varieties of jackfruit predominate: varikka chakka and koozha chakka . Varikka has slightly hard inner flesh when ripe, while the inner flesh of the ripe koozha fruit is very soft and almost dissolving. For preparing this dish, unripe varikka chakka is used.

People prepare this dish very often during the jackfruit season i.e., between March and June,  and is traditionally served with hot tea. It is also served as a side dish for rice. And, it tastes fantastic.

So try this next time, and enjoy the flavour of Kerala. :) :)

Kerala Style Beef Fry / Naadan Beef Fry

Like Beef..? I like them! Ok.. then, let's prepare a beef dish..!

Before that, let me tell you something!  In our home, beef is not a part of our staple diet. We prepare them only once in a while, like during celebrations or a family get together. May be that's the reason why I eat more food when there is beef in the menu. I would like to have them either fried or as curry.

There are different recipes for Beef fry. But this one is a typical. We also follow this recipe. Try them...Enjoy them..! :)

Kallappam / Traditional Appam with Toddy

Kallappam / Traditional Appam with Toddy

Kallappam is a typical Kerala breakfast made with fermented rice batter and it looks similar to a pancake. Traditionally, Toddy (Kallu) was used to ferment the rice batter and hence the name "Kallappam". But now a days, yeast is used as an alternative. Also, shallots and cumins seeds are added while making the batter, which is not usually used in other varieties of Appam. When it comes to the taste,I swear, this is fantabulous. These can be served with Stew, Kadala Curry or any non-vegetarian dish.

So are you ready to go traditional with Kallappams...?! :)
